Shantigiri parish was run by CMI Fathers and when they handed it over to the Diocese, three acres of land was ear-marked for a convent. Accordingly an F.C.C convent was started there. The locality is occupied mostly by manual labourers and the sisters work among them. Thus Alverna combines voluntary poverty with involuntary poverty and the two seem to go well.
