Our ministries reflect the Franciscan call to prayerful service, reaching communities through education, healthcare, pastoral care, faith formation, and compassionate social outreach across India and abroad.
Education has always been a vital apostolate of the Franciscan Clarist Sisters. Inspired by the vision of forming young minds through faith, knowledge, and values, the sisters serve in schools across the Province, especially in nursery, primary, and secondary education. Their ministry focuses not only on academic excellence but also on nurturing character, compassion, and responsible citizenship.
Healing ministry remains one of the most cherished services of the Franciscan Clarist Sisters. Following the healing ministry of Jesus Christ, the sisters serve in hospitals, dispensaries, community health centres, old age homes, and healthcare institutions, offering compassionate care to the sick, elderly, and those in need.
The Province extends this ministry across Kerala, Karnataka, Germany, and Italy through doctors, nurses, and paramedical professionals. Their services include community healthcare, counselling, dialysis support, palliative care, care for the elderly, addiction recovery, and pro-life initiatives. Through every act of healing, the sisters continue to restore hope, dignity, and God’s compassionate presence in the lives of countless people.
The Franciscan Clarist Sisters have long been committed to uplifting the lives of the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable through compassionate social service rooted in the Gospel. Working in collaboration with diocesan organizations and local communities, the sisters respond to the needs of children, women, the elderly, and families facing social and economic hardships.
A major expression of this mission is the Vimala Orphanage Charitable Society, established in 1984. Today, the society empowers women through livelihood programmes, tailoring, and handicraft production while supporting families with sustainable employment opportunities. The sisters also actively engage in disaster relief, rehabilitation, community welfare programmes, and initiatives that promote dignity, self-reliance, and hope.
The sisters actively participate in parish life by strengthening faith communities through pastoral care, catechetical ministry, and liturgical service. They accompany children, youth, families, and parish organizations through prayer, faith formation, and spiritual guidance, helping communities grow in their relationship with Christ.
Their ministry includes teaching catechism, preparing children for the Sacraments, animating prayer groups, leading choirs, coordinating parish organizations, and supporting retreats and evangelization programmes. Through their joyful presence and dedicated service, the sisters continue to enrich parish life while nurturing vibrant Christian communities.
The Karnataka Mission reflects the missionary zeal of the Province to serve communities beyond its home region. The sisters minister among rural villages through education, healthcare, evangelization, parish ministry, and social development, responding to the needs of people with simplicity and compassion.
Mission centres such as Honnammanakatte and Hallikkarahundi provide healthcare, counselling, village outreach, and pastoral care while fostering faith and community development. Through education, medical assistance, and compassionate accompaniment, the sisters continue to bring hope and dignity to people living in remote and underserved areas.
With the vision of evangelization and missionary outreach, the Province extended its mission to Europe, beginning with Germany in 1991. The sisters initially served in healthcare ministries and elderly care, later expanding their presence through additional communities dedicated to compassionate service and Christian witness.
Today, the Foreign Mission continues in Germany and Italy through healthcare, elderly care, parish ministry, catechetical formation, and pastoral service. The sisters accompany the elderly, prepare children and adults for the Sacraments, distribute Holy Communion, and actively participate in parish life, carrying the Franciscan spirit of humility, service, and love across cultures.
Mission Outreach expresses the Franciscan Clarist Sisters’ commitment to bringing Christ’s love beyond convent walls by reaching people where they are most in need. Inspired by the Gospel and the Franciscan charism, the sisters serve in villages, mission stations, and marginalized communities through evangelization, pastoral care, education, healthcare, and humanitarian assistance.
